That is a keen insight concerning the "double hurdle" that keeps us from a worshipful attitude. It's so true that acknowledging the weakness rather than trying to fight it in our own strength gives God room to work in us. I remember another thing that Jesus did to disarm the enemy of his soul - he quoted relevant Scripture. I find that to be immensely helpful too.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts!Marcia Jansonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12143915378127931144noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3371828836407830440.post-83169819304321013032012-11-15T22:32:02.348-07:002012-11-15T22:32:02.348-07:00I have been thinking about why it is hard for us t...I have been thinking about why it is hard for us to worship and the only answer I could find is this:

our sinful nature doesn't enjoy worshiping God and the enemy doesn't want us to even think about it. So it is a double hurdle to overcome. So unless the Holy Spirit graciously stirs up the desire to worship in our hearts and unless we humble ourselves and obey to His calling, the true worship won't happen.

Basically, our struggle to worship reminds us that we are children of weakness and keeps us humble. I ask myself the same questions as you do on Sunday morning: Why is it so hard for me to focus entirely on God and worship Him with all my heart and let go of all distracting thoughts? (By the way, In Christ Alone is one of my most favourite songs!) I absolutely agree that humbling yourself, becoming like a child opens a door to the Holy Spirit. Once I have made an effort to sumbit myself to the Holy Spirit, immediately my own spirit (and mind) becomes open to enjoy this wonderful union with the Creator. Even the terrible calamities that came upon Israel were so they would realize how much they needed to be connected with him and recognize him as their provider, their Lord.

Thanks for reminding me of that tonight. I was growing in a very volatile political and economic envoriment and naturally I like changes (I think it gives me opportunity to start afresh) so the ever-changing world does not bother me. However, I get greatly distressed and grieved to with situation in the Middle East or whenever I hear news about people being mistreated. Jesus warned us about various calamities, upheavals ("birth pains") that were to come. So I am reminded that God is in control. And of course, Isaiah 26:9-10 encourages me:
When your judgments come upon the earth,
the people of the world learn righteousness.

But when grace is shown to the wicked,
they do not learn righteousness;
even in a land of uprightness they go on doing evil
and do not regard the majesty of the Lord.

These verses remind me that God is at work in the world and He knows what to do to get our attention to Him. Your words are like gentle waves that sweep the shore making the sand even once again and clearing away the footprints that man has left.

It's amazing that King David accepted and embraced this knowledge of how intimately God knew him when he prayed for God to search his heart. Although he knew he was capable of great sin, he also knew he was justified in God's sight... "Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting." (Psa 139:23-24).

I like your sentence: "Jesus, Son of man and Son of God, is a suitable Bridegroom who will ensure that we become the most radiant, confident and beloved Bride in all creation." It makes me think of the acceptance assured us by God the Father because we are accepted in Christ: "...wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved." The Gospel of John was the first Bible book I read, long ago and far away, when I first became a Christian. God's love does shine through John's writings, doesn't it? So, the way you tie John in with Song of Songs really resonates with me. I agree with you and, like you, am abundantly thankful for God's gracious gifts.

I hope to meet you in person one day!Marcia Jansonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12143915378127931144noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3371828836407830440.post-33305690119242691632012-08-30T20:52:01.208-06:002012-08-30T20:52:01.208-06:00Hello Mrs. Janson,

It's lovely to meet you virtually, and perhaps someday, I will have the pleasure of meeting you face to face!

Your husband showed my your blogspot today, and I enjoyed reading your observations on the "Song of Songs".

I love how the Song of Songs closely parallels the relationship that the Apostle John had with Jesus Christ. For example, to follow a train of thought beginning in the Song of Songs through to John's writings: "He brought me to the banqueting house, and his banner over me was *love*." (Song of Solomon 2:4)..."For God so *loved* the world, that he gave his only begotton Son that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." (John 3:16)..."We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we *love* the brethren...(I John 3:14a).

I'm so glad God has given me assurance of having passed from death to everlasting life--life alluded to in the Song of Songs and made abundantly clear in the writings of John.Candacehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09731716960928257463noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3371828836407830440.post-63306151280740677722012-08-23T12:19:11.939-06:002012-08-23T12:19:11.939-06:00Thanks, Brenda!
